Good afternoon fencers and parents! Just a heads up that when students come to room 6 tomorrow afternoon for fencing practice, we will be discussing the Ellis Fencing Code of Conduct. In order for your child to participate, they must sign the Code of Conduct. This represents a contract between the fencer, coach, and parent to adhere to general rules that must be observed for the safety of the fencers. In addition, I will be sending home a couple other forms this week that I will need to have signed, including a liability waver and medical release form (both of which are standard for any school sport and are the same forms Coach Lesley uses). Attached to this post is the Code of Conduct. If you have time, please review this with your child. We will also go over it in more detail tomorrow. Lastly, please remember that it is extremely likely we will have to break the group up into classes. I do not know how many students plan on attending tomorrow, so I will have more information during pick up at 5pm.
Thanks to everyone who was able to attend last week's informational meeting. For those unable to attend, a summary of the meeting will follow at the end of this post.
Our first meeting will take place after school on October 17. During dismissal, fencers should report to room 6 (Ms. Natalie's class) to sign in. Please send your child with appropriate attire (workout clothes and gym shoes). We will be meeting from 3-5pm. If you need to pick your child up before 5pm, please go through the Battey Street entrance (Pryme Tyme). Otherwise, I will dismiss all fencers at the front. There will be a sign-out sheet, so please make sure to check with me before you leave! Finally, for the first few meetings, I would like to see both beginning and returning fencers attend so that I can work out groups if we need to have separate classes. All fencers should attend our sessions on October 17, 19, and 24. After the 24th, I will make a decision about multiple classes. At the moment, I am leaning towards having veteran fencer classes on Tuesdays and beginner classes on Thursdays. Meeting Summary:
If you have any questions, or if I missed anything from the meeting, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or leave a reply to this post. With the end of the year approaching quickly along with everything it brings (testing, school meetings, conferences, etc.), we will have to have our final meeting this Tuesday, March 28. Most of you know this already, and I have let the fencers know, but I wanted to post a reminder. After having met with Ms. Tanya, the school schedule is so hectic that if we were to push for more meetings, they would just be too sporadic.
This Tuesday, you are all invited to come in around 4pm to watch the students fence. We will hold a mock tournament to finish out the year. If you are able to attend, you should be able to enter the building through Pryme Tyme, at the multipurpose room. Although we are finishing out the year, I hope you will all try to find time to meet up with each other so your children can continue to fence outside of school. They know all of the safety regarding fencing and I feel that they would be fine to meet up outside of school. In addition, I will try to find some tournaments going on in the area over the summer that anyone interested could go watch. I think it would be a great opportunity for your children to see a real tournament, and I will be more than happy to meet a group of you at one. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email. Happy Sunday everyone!
Please remember that fencing will resume this week. We will be going back to meeting twice a week, as many students now have equipment and we will be taking some new students into the club. My hope is that some of my more veteran students will show an interest in working with the newer students. If you are interested in bringing snack, please follow the link below to our SignupGenius. Please have enough snack for 22 students. Happy New Year!
I am so excited to see everyone and begin our second semester of fencing! Before we start back up, I wanted to make just a few announcements about when we will begin and the state of the club as of now. Fencing will resume the week of January 16. I had originally planned to resume next week, but after meeting with Coach Lesley, it seems that it would be best for us to wait. The floors were refinished in the MPR and we no longer have a strip. I will have to order some supplies to get us ready to go again. In addition, I will be taking in some new fencers and would like to have the extra time in order to contact families and collect paperwork. This is an opportunity for our more advanced fencers to help out by giving lessons. I am hoping this will work well considering their Montessori backgrounds. I will be posting a form to sign up for snack days and updating the calendar within the next day, please keep an eye out and check the website by the end of the day tomorrow. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. |
